Brampton is embracing the global excitement of soccer with a city-wide celebration ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026. The city, in collaboration with community partners, has launched its "Where the Game Grows" campaign, rolling out a series of free, soccer-themed events for residents of all ages over the next two months.
The extensive lineup aims to highlight Brampton's vibrant soccer culture and community spirit as the world turns its attention to one of sport's biggest tournaments. While neighbouring Toronto is an official host city for the FIFA World Cup 2026, Brampton is ensuring its residents can be part of the action and build local excitement through a variety of engaging activities.
Central to the festivities will be Garden Square, which will transform into a hub for soccer fans. The city plans to broadcast every FIFA World Cup match live at the downtown hub, with a full schedule expected to be released in the coming weeks. This provides a communal space for residents to gather and cheer on their favourite teams, fostering a shared sense of community and excitement. The economic impact of such major sporting events can be substantial, with reports indicating that Los Angeles expects $594M economic boost from 2026 World Cup.
Canada kicks things off
The celebration begins with a special screening of a Team Canada match on June 12 at 3 p.m. in Garden Square. This kickoff event will feature more than just the game; attendees can enjoy a range of soccer-themed programming, including an inflatable soccer field for 3-on-3 matches hosted by Ready Set Play.
The activation will also serve as a platform for local soccer organizations to promote pathways for aspiring players, coaches, and referees, reinforcing the campaign's theme of nurturing the sport at a grassroots level. Downtown Brampton businesses are also set to participate, adding to the festive atmosphere.
This focus on local development is a key part of Brampton's identity. The city has a long history of producing top soccer talent and fostering a passionate fan base. By integrating local clubs and organizations, the "Where the Game Grows" campaign aims to inspire the next generation of players and strengthen the sport's foundation in the community.

Festivals, films and family fun
On July 18 and 19, "Goals, Goods and Grooves" will take over the City Hall Conservatory and Daily Times Square. This event will showcase local vendors, live music, dance lessons, and family-friendly activities. The series concludes on August 16 with "The Final Whistle" at 57 Mill St. N., promising more live entertainment, inflatable games, and soccer-inspired fun.
For those who prefer a more relaxed experience, the city’s popular Movies Under the Stars program will feature three soccer-themed movie nights. These free, weather-permitting events are scheduled for June 28 at Greenbriar Recreation Centre, July 3 at Gore Meadows Community Centre, and July 11 at Mount Pleasant Village Square.

Residents can also get a taste of championship glory through the "Where the Game Grows" Travelling Photo Activation Tour.
